Hi There !
So, sex again this week.
Is this getting to be a habit?
What will the neighbors say?
Well, be assured that
what's going on here
isn't some sort of
salaciousness.
Not at all.
Trust me.
I can make even sex tedious.
But study sex we must.
That's because sex is
so intricately interwoven
with our spiritual living.
The health of one
is the health of the other.
Sad to say,
for too long
and
for too many,
our history and
current culture
lost the ease,
the normalcy,
the trans-formative energy,
the door to the divine,
that simpler times and peoples
enjoyed in matters sexual.
In Part I and now Part II
we see how we got
what we got:
REPRESSION
recently ruptured into
OBSESSION.
Once we've treated that,
we'll move on to see
sex as creation working to
Oneness,
the difference between
sex and gender,
the fluidity in gender
as we are currently working
our way through that
and then on to the wondrous
freshness and freedom,
the creative potential
of beautiful, pure, sacred
SOULFUL SEX
All of which has ever so much to do
with our spiritual lives out here
on the street of everyday living.
Now a bit more on
elements contributing to sexual
REPRESSION
leading up to today's
OBSESSION.
Birth Control:
- Protestant leaders and
Roman Catholic popes
condemned birth control
as unnatural and sinful.
Protestant leaders had birth control
made illegal in some states of the USA
That lasted all the way up to the 1960's
See Griswold v. Connecticut 1965,
United States Supreme Court
( offspring needed to work
and protect the family farm,
or later, provide cheap labor
in mills and factories
in Connecticut and
many other states!!!).
- Pope Pius X1
in 1931,
"Casti Cannubi,"
- Pope Pius Xll,
September 18,1951,
"Allocution to Association
of Large Families in Italy",
- Pope Paul Vl
July 25, 1968,
"Humanae Vitae,"
all condemned birth control
as morally evil and a grave sin.
( The Catholic and Protestent
teenage boys in hell
for the sex sin of masturbation
had to move over to make room
for their parents who practiced
the sex sin of birth control!!).
Sex Abuse, Protestant and Roman.
REPRESSION

OBSESSION
Extreme begets extreme.
Obsession replaced Repression.
Starting in the 1960's
and continuing today,
the top has been blowing off
the social/sexual pressure cooker.
Pent up centuries of
personal and social stress,
and
archetypal repression
are exploding
in rejection.
"Don't have more than
one piece of chocolate
a week, and none in Lent."
reversed to
"Scarf all you want.
Eat yourself silly !"
"If it feels good, do it"
"I'm entitled."
Me-ism.
"Who are you to tell me?"
One college student I had in class
put it like this:
"All I want is sex,
and I don't need
to know your name."
Religious leaders, institutions
and their teachings
have lost moral authority.
Permissiveness replaces stricture,
casualness for control.
Terrible
supplanted by
Terrible.
Sexual Obsession
replacing
Sexual Repression.
Not a bit better.
Just
disappointingly
different.
Flagrant fling
for
tightly controlled,
calculated sex.
Both missing the mark,
missing sublime mystery.
Both body blocks
to the unitive spirit,
The Spirit so present in
Sacred Sexuality.
Denial
swapped for
trivialization.
It's a version of
the old grandfather clock.
A cultural pendulum swing
from extreme to extreme.
As a culture
we are still
sexually unbalanced,
just in another way.
It's like abuse of
a $ 300,000 Maserati:
keeping it locked up in
the garage
verses
recklessly, wildly driving it
over any and everything.
No good either way.
Our current Sexual Revolution
is Woodstock on steroids:
-casual carnality,
-muddy mixing,
-pornography that
can't capture the big picture,
-skin to skin rather than
person to person,
or
spirit to spirit,
-pleasure blocking ecstasy,
-convenience for communion,
-open marriage that closes the door
to unitive commitment,
-family life orphaned,
-surface for depth,
-celestial soaring grounded.
In this mix, mystery is missing.
Sex is short changed.
Sex as a door to the divine is bolted tight.
Spiritual living is impoverished.
It has the air taken out of its tires.
It doesn't get far.
Today Fake News is
oozing into pools
of polluted unrealness.
Superficial sex
is one of the largest fake outs
spinning unrealness.
Not good news!
Consider the effects on
spiritual living,
individually,
collectively.
Happily, there is an evolution in motion.
More and more we are awakening to
a spacious,
inclusive,
all embracing,
unitive experience
of
self, other, nature,
one that rejoices
in the intimacy of our
ONENESS.
It bodes well for us
individually,
collectively.
In our next posting we'll survey
the synthesis that sex and soul
are meant to be.
After all, we want to have
a great sexual life,
a great spiritual life,
and that's a lot more than
a touch that doesn't.
It is a Sacred Sexuality.
It's personal.
It's real "clinging"
and
"one fleshing" it
(Genesis 1and 2 got right).
It's earthy/heavenly delight.
It's cosmic.
