NEW YEAR

Dear All of Us,

I want to get this

just right and

wish everyone a

HAPPY NEW YEAR,

but which one?

The Chinese and

Lunar New Year

is January 29th.

The Jewish New Year

will be September 22nd.

For the Hopi People

it will be December 22nd.

Christians begin the

Liturgical New Year

on November 30th.

The USA Fiscal New Year

begins October 1st.,

yet from 46 BCE

 The Julian Calander,

   and since 1582,

The Gregorian Calander,

  have insisted that

     no matter

     the season,

    January 1st.

    always marks

   the start of the

      New Year.

      That's a

 dangerous error.

  It mismatches

     calendar

       and

     climate,

     seasons

     spiritual

       and

 environmental.

I live in Washington, DC.

That's East Coast,

Mid-Atlantic USA.

Here the real

   New Year

begins in March.

It starts fresh,

lots of light

and warmth,

budding and

blooming.

  New Life

   Springs

It's the first

of the new year's

four seasons.

Right now here in DC,

         though,

we are just getting into

         Winter

     the very last

     of the year's

     four seasons

     no matter the

     Calander Say

        about a

       new year.

Just as we need

to dress for the

season outside,

so we need

to address

the season

inside.

Soulfully,

winter allows

slow go.

We're in

way more

than out.

Reflection,

centering,

sensing,

Divine Comforter

Love wrapped.

"Some Native Americans

in the Southwest

enter a phase of

 'keeping still'

in this season,

staying inside and

quieting their activities

just as animals

and plants

enter their own

winter repose.

Now the winter solstice

approaches, when even

the rising sun stands still

on the horizon." (1)

      After we

weather the winter

  inside and out

     it will be

 the right time to

  calendar call

         a

 Happy New Year

Right now, right here

       in winter

        it is so

season appropriate

          to

      Soul Still

       "Be still

      and know

      I am God."
