Dear All of Us,

     Hey!

  Look out!

I'm on a bit of

 a tare today.

       It's this.

    Do-Gooders 

    really don't!

    We all know 

    it's wrong.

    and it is

    and too often

    WE ARE THEY

    the wronging,

    the sometimes 

    not so good 

      DOERS

      EKEEES!

Let's face it.

We're  doers

and too often, 

and too much,

that doing 

doesn't do so good.

It amounts to faux good,

as in phony 

and that neither computes, 

adds up or counts.

Yet our egos and culture 

team up,

come at us with 

Moral Misinformation,

pressures and persuasions

such as

-"Do good in school, 

  in sports, in business,

  and you'll be a real success

  and happy in life"

-"You can do anything 

  you put your mind to do."

-The self-made man

 does it on his own.

-"We do the difficult 

  right away.

  The impossible takes 

  a little longer to do."

-"Rugged individualism does it."

-John Dewey's doing direction,

  the philosophy of 

  American Pragmatism, 

  a cult of doing 

  not well tethered to 

  a healthy and reality rooted 

  sense of being.

Quit frankly all that doing

is often 

           Doo-Doo.

Quite frankly all that doing 

is often our 

           Un-Doing.

That's because the motivation, 

the energy, the direction,

the measurement,

the evaluation,

the output

come from solo self.

We're just not up to it.

It wares the heaven out of us.

There's hell to pay

because we have set up

a false god - ourselves.

We ware ourselves and 

a lot of other people out 

because we have to come up 

with the good to do.

Where do we get it?

Where do we know 

to lavish it?

It all comes from ourselves.

So, we stress away

drawing from our

surface energies

and them directed 

by our egos.

The reservoir is shallow 

and stagnant the seep.

           PHEW!

Glad we're all still here.

Enough already with "tare".

Wondrously,

we need not be 

drought dry dead

and deadening 

do gooders.

There is a vast, 

unlimited reservoir 

          of

        Good

"God alone is good"

        Jesus

     Mark 10:18

A full bore, free and 

freeing spiritual life is 

letting God's Goodness

flow through us.

We are conduits, 

not the source of good.

The Source is our 

   Self Source

       GOD

No need to play God.

We already have one, 

         and 

there is only one

and it's not us.

Given our circumstances, 

our gifts and graces,

we get our ego out of the way

              and 

    "Let the good times" 

and every other dynamic of 

          God Good 

       roll through us,

   through our attitudes,

   through our evaluations,

   through our actions 

   and reactions,

   through our speech.

We don't originate

    God Goodness 

We accept it and share it.

We be and do the good 

that God gives us

to be and share.

We live the lesson of 

  "I am the vine, 

      you are 

   the branches."

     John 15:5

We bare

  God's Good  fruit.

  

  God Sourced,

 we do our doing.

   "Be doers 

    of the word

    and not 

    hearers only..."

     James 1:22  

     

       God Sourced

  "Do all the good you can,

   by all the means you can,

   in all the ways you can,

   in all the places you can,

   at all the times you can,

   to all the people you can,

   as long as ever you can."

PART I

Dear All of Us,

It's been a while. 

       Ollie

    my little 

 GRAND SON 

                               

(Ollie and Mom the other day)

is a bright, happy, 

active, most lovable, 

card carrying toddler,

two and a half now.

         

Yah, I'm nuts about him!

      

Among his endless 

favorite things is

a beginner's version of

Hide and Seek

It always calls for 

at least four encores!

Hide and Seek

is fun as play 

with children.

It's absolutely 

no fun at all 

when it's at play 

in our spiritual lives.

It drags us into 

a futile fix.

Sometimes 

we hide both 

our true self and 

our false self 

from ourself and 

everyone else 

so faux-fully that 

no seeking finds 

the hidden self.

It is too often 

so with nations, 

religions, corporations, 

institutions of 

all sorts and strips. 

It's a Hide and Seek 

that is impossible 

and in which no one wins.

The worst of the worst 

is getting drawn into 

the futility of seeking 

     a hidden God.

It's like a Road Race 

to find what's right there 

in front of us.

God isn't hidden.

Rather, we aren't focused 

on seeing God 

in plain sight 

right there in that

  "front of us"

 in us, in others, 

 in all Creation.

Over time just about 

all religions have 

posited and positioned 

         a god 

up there, out there -

hidden somewhere we aren't. 

Thus, distance and division

with consequent and futile 

dickering/dealing, 

seeking a far out 

and hidden god.

This god they created is 

"made in the image 

and likeness of" us,

is a sort of 

Superman/Woman.

Since this god 

creates and controls all, 

we need to seek him/her 

and make "Nice Nice" 

for our protection and

our hoped-for prosperity 

here and hereafter.  

The game is lost 

from the start 

as we scramble seeking 

a god not at all hidden,

and not created, 

much less made in our

human image and likeness.  

Yet, too many priests, 

pastors, philosophers,

gurus, theologians, 

shamans, rabbis 

and imams 

have created a cult, 

made a career 

and cash 

of this 

"hide and seek."

It's fundamental flaw 

        is that 

  dreadful distance, 

       us here,

       God there,

and thus that 

    dreadful "art of the deal"

with the divine. 

It falls and fails into

    transactional 

    not transformative 

    spirituality.

Look what and where 

all that hidden god 

has gotten us!!

We're at a crisis time 

in history.

There's a call on 

what's what.

We are finding 

we have come up 

spirituality short 

for centuries.

Our spiritual 

health and growth, 

       indeed, 

civilization's survival, 

depend on a 

refocused spirituality.

Let's give it a go,

starting right where we are.

Be advised:

      heavy lifting required.

There simply is what

         "IS" 

We're born into it, 

actually of it. 

That is true of all -

be it universal and

probably beyond that 

energies, vegetables, 

puppies, planets, people, 

elements of matter 

in the mountains 

and elements for 

tonight's supper, 

music, media, concept, ...

        All that is 

      exists in this 

            "IS." 

All that exists (ex "is" ts) 

is an instance of this 

           "IS."

All that exists is part of 

      what really

          "IS" 

        Reality.

That's really good, 

and we delight to call 

this unlimited good 

         God.

God doesn't exist

in existence. 

   

    God is existence. 

    All exists in God 

  

         God "IS" 

more than pretty close, 

   and endlessly so!

         God "IS" 

what, where and how all

           "IS" 

We are part 

of that Good, 

part of what 

    "IS"

Of course, 

there's a heaven of 

a lot more than 

we see, figure, fathom, 

know, or experience 

of God just yet.

It's not hidden. 

It's that we are not yet 

tall enough, 

evolved enough,

matured enough,

to see more of 

the God Good Horizon 

as it ever out-goes. 

There's plenty of

       "IS" 

in which we can 

meet and mix

with God

right where, 

as and how we "is".

We are gifted to be 

immersed in it, 

in God.

God is not hidden 

out there somewhere.

Go inward, go outward - 

       God "IS."

         

 Our spirituality is 

 immersion in what

         "IS"

   immersion in

         God

"God is my deepest self" (1)

"God is closer to me 

 than I am to myself. (2)

"It is in him that 

 we live and move 

 and have our being." (3)

God is the "IS" 

of every person, 

thing, power, pulsation 

in which and with which 

there is and we "is." 

We are family -

same last name, 

different first names.

The physicist,

Neil de Grasse Tyson 

notes our solidarity.

He says we are all

fundamentally connected 

to each other biologically, 

to the earth chemically, 

and to the rest of 

the universe atomically.(4)

          All 

         "IS" 

         ONE   

  splendidly diverse.

Our spirituality is 

to be present to God 

in all within and 

in all about us.

It is not to be 

chasing after

a hidden, far out, 

a somewhere else God.

God is right 

in front of us, 

all around us, 

all the way inside us.

That's where 

we commune with God -

  Everywhere Always

What about the evil

in existence?

Sadly, some spoilers 

there are. 

They try to fracture what 

             "IS"

grab pieces of it to fashion 

a cult of isolated 

and isolating self. 

It's their hellish efforts 

at dominating what 

         "IS"

It causes chaos and pain.

We suffer that evil.

Evil is a violation of what 

           "IS".

Evil is Good disordered.

We are part of 

a challenge to that.

We work at the 

redemption of evil,

to rightness as it really

         "IS"

Our spirituality is 

to live in God.

We work, play, pray, 

love, share together 

in God Good.

Rather than stress after 

a god somewhere 

out there,

we are immersed in God 

right here, right now.

It's our milieu.

Chardin calls it

The Divine Milieu.

It's where we 

encounter God.

No hide and seek to it.

There's so much more 

to see and say, 

so some time down the line,

perhaps after Easter, 

let's do just that.

 Dear All of Us,

"Remember the good old days?"

"Remember me to your family."

"Remember to get milk."

From all our codes 

and passwords  to

 "Where did I put 

   my glasses?,"

  we sure have 

     a lot to 

  REMEMBER

Without it we 

wouldn't be able 

to put one foot 

in front of another, 

much less get anywhere 

in life with its endless 

steps and strivings

    of all sorts

    minuscule 

        to 

  monumental.

       So

We call to mind.

We re-collect

what is not 

immediately present 

 to help us

navigate forward 

and that  

more than bodily.

Our spiritual lives are 

all of the above 

and much more

as we address

what calls for 

a unique work to

  REMEMBER

in a critical way.

We and our society 

forget, lose contact, 

disconnect, even sever

     our union in 

     God's Good 

      Oneness

We come undone, 

      not one, 

but bits and pieces,

shattered shards

         of 

      Reality

- Me instead of Us.

- "The hell with 

  The Common Good,"

  and hell it causes for 

  so sadly many.

- Truth and justice

   devastated, 

   twisted unreal, 

   untenable,

   impossible. 

- Playing the angles

  razor sharp,

  cutting asunder

  fairness and trust.

- Ravaging air, water, soil.

- Using and then trashing

  the needful, 

  the poor,

  the marginalized.

- Going Solo Sensual, 

  soul and spirit

  dulled deadly.

There's a lot to 

  REMEMBER

It means 

a lot more than

mental recollection.

In the deepest sense 

        it is to

    RE - MEMBER

        rejoin

  the disconnected

        it is to 

  RESTORE UNITY

     to Creation

       it is to

HELP GOD REPAIR

    the damaged 

         and 

     desecrated

          to 

    Wholeness

     WE RE-MEMBER

-by socializing with those 

 excluded from our circles

-by staying in touch 

 with a friend who's

 barely hanging on

-by using mass transit 

 as much as possible

-by playing pickle ball

 with a political opposite

-by paying an

 undocumented worker

 a full wage for 

 house cleaning,

 landscaping,

 repair work

-by connecting neighbors -

 hosting a card party,

 throwing a barbeque,

 leading a book club,

 facilitating an 

 oral history sharing

-by supporting an 

 EarthCare candidate

-by inviting nones 

 to form a 

 life quest/spirituality

 sharing group

-by corresponding with 

 an incarcerated person

-by wrapping in families 

 with no relatives close by

-by inviting a small group 

 to form a home church, 

 especially if local churches 

 are spiritually and

 socially anemic

-by spoting single parents

-by "adopting" a lonely

  senior adult

-by hosting an inner-city child 

 for a week or two 

 during the summer

-by using a gift or talent

 to enrich a poor child -

 teaching carpentry, 

 music, car repair, art,

 tech skills

-by advocating for 

 affordable housing

-by seeking peaceable substitutes

 to our incessant wars - 

 try a war count since 

 the second World War,

 than weep, pray and be active!)

-by daily praying for the 

 lost or forgotten worldwide.

We do our best to 

spiritually,

practically 

live out

 Trinity

    A

  Unity

   IN 

Diversity

We do our best to 

spiritually, 

practically

live out

the invitation

of Jesus,

      Do this 

         to

   RE-MEMBER 

           ME

  We're "All In" 

  on hosting

        a

  UNIVERSAL

     HOLY 

     COME

     UNION

  right where 

     we live

       We

  COMMIT TO

  RE-MEMBER

DIFFERNTLY SAME

                                                                                                                                                                          Dear All of Us,

Time to pack it in 

for Christmas.

That takes some doing 

around here because 

we have thirty small 

nativity sets.

They come from

from about that many 

countries around the world.

Getting ready 

to put them away this week,

it struck me yet again

how each of them presents

the nativity so 

          Differently Same

The figures all

resemble the people 

of those many homelands.

All are garbed 

in native dress.

All represent the

one same nativity event 

          Differently Same

It also stuck me that 

all those represented

in that original nativity event

were 

          Differently Same

A new mother

and her to be husband,

displaced migrants,

hold up in an animal shed.

Some smelly shepherds 

not exactly fresh, 

but right from the fields.

And that at the heralding 

of sky bright angels 

in heavenly chorus.

Then there were some

rather well healed scholars

from somewhere far foreign 

bearing especially pricey gifts.

They had to deal with, 

and then dodge, Herod,  

a demonic demagogue,

the Jerusalem puppet of 

Empire Rome.

A migrant couple, angels, 

shepherds, scholars

       Differently Same

together supporting the birth 

               of 

        Baby God Boy

         Emmanual

Each and all following their 

various visions, dreams, lights.

That's how it got started.

That's how it still goes.

          Differently Same

We're not them and there.

We're now in our where.

We support and share

     Love Liveness 

          in the

     Kin Domain

           of

       Godness

          that

    Baby Boy God

      Emmanuel

        grew to

         gift us

Our spiritual life is

vigorous participation 

        in the 

    "Growthing"

     of the gift.

We live that  

in our various 

lands and ways

          Differently Same

What visions, dreams, lights

do we have to follow and share?

  WE INTERUPT THIS BLOG

I just came down with COVID.

I am on the shady side of eighty three.

I feel terrible.

I cannot finish this blog.

       but with living.

- How can you in concert with others

  the Kin Domain of God Good?

The current institutional church 

is neither model nor hope.

The blue prints are the 

words and way of Jesus shared 

in the Gospels.

The Spirit provides 

energy and guidance.

Given the difference of 

your gifts, station, nation,

how can you together with others

live vigorously the one same 

         Kin Domain

              of 

             God 

     Differently Same

          ******

WAKE UP

BEFORE WE GET STARTED

       Here's to a 

   HAPPY NEW YEAR

Our first time together 

in this new year 

will take longer than usual

to get from start to finish.

Every once in a while

that happens.

May this be a 

worthwhile happening.

May it be worth

the extra stretch.

May it set us on a 

  God Course

       for

The New Year

It might help to

 Pray Ponder 

smaller portions

each day this week.

As this new year 

    awakens

    may we 

  more really, 

  more deeply,

hear and live a 

      YES

as God Call us

      to a 

 Wonderous

  Wake Up

   ******

Dear All of Us,

Getting up - Waking up.  

For some they go together. 

For others there is 

a definite time lag. 

In our family 

some wake up talking,

some really don't want 

to talk until after lunch. 

For sure, it requires 

      patience 

        and 

 accommodation.

In our human family 

it's pretty much the same. 

As people and as peoples 

we wake up, 

we come to 

consciousness, 

in different ways and

to different degrees.

It requires 

        patience 

          and 

   accommodation.

Scientists tell us that 

if we scale time 

in terms of a

twenty-four-hour day,

from The Big Bang 

to just now, 

we people showed up 

at 11:59 PM, 

nanoseconds 

before midnight. 

We just got here. 

We are just beginning 

to wake up,

to catch on to 

   Reality,

 to become 

 conscious 

      of  

What Really 

     Is

There is a huge difference 

in how that goes for us, 

individually and collectively,

goes well or not so well. 

Some are catching on.

Some are fogged out. 

Some are on the go. 

Some haven't even 

opened their eyes yet. 

Some are cranky.

Some are gracious 

and loving.

Some are hard 

and hurting.

Some are free 

and playful.

Yes, it takes 

a truck load of 

    patience 

       and 

accommodation. 

That does and 

doesn't happen.  

We see it in

the spread of 

the people and 

peoples we are

over time and 

from place to place.

We see it in our doing, 

or not doing,

then and here, 

in our history and 

our moment now -

Wondrously Real 

      and 

Terribly Unreal

    Examples 

       and 

    Contrast: 

 - Jesus,

 - Hitler, 

 - the development 

   of farming, 

 - today's synthetic foods 

   and water supply

   laced with PFAS 

   ("forever chemicals"), 

  - the gift of modern media, 

  - malicious misinformation, 

  - Quakers, 

  - White Nationalists, 

  - the development 

    of democracies, 

  - dictators and 

    demagogues. 

  - In the United States 

    from the beginning 

    we legitimated 

    the racial rape

    that is slavery,

    killed way over 

    half a million 

    of our own over it

    - a not at all civil war - 

    maimed multitudes more, 

    and are now 

    twitching in tension 

    over the horror 

    neither fully admitted 

    nor close to resolved. 

    As a people 

    we have yet 

    to wake up to and

    face this hideous 

    social/moral nightmare.

  - There was a 

     glorious expansion 

     of learning and art 

     during the Middle Ages 

     and Renaissance. 

   - current culture wars.

Yes, it seems

we are just starting 

to wake up to 

     Reality

and that "we" 

doesn't yet mean 

all of us. 

So, the need for 

a spirituality of 

   patience 

      and 

accommodation

with ourselves 

and others.

It means right 

where we are 

and as we are, 

in the most immediate 

and practical of ways 

to awaken to

    Reality 

exercising patience 

and accommodate 

as others do or 

don't do the same.

May we get beyond 

just a devotional nod to 

God's Wake Up Calls 

so clearly voices for us

in our scriptures.

Let's hear all and full.

Let's awaken to them 

a little at a time

and ever more fully.

Let's Pray Pause 

over each line.

How is it to be 

heard and lived 

in our here and now?

What does it reveal 

about being conscious, 

being awake 

       to 

    Reality

       to 

 The Limitless

   Expanse 

 That Is God

   

THE WAKE UP CALL

 - "Do unto others as 

   you would have them 

   do unto you." 

       Matthew 7:12

    Accepting that other 

    is us another way

- "Love God, neighbor 

          as self" 

   Matthew 22:37-40

   and do it with 

   all you've got, 

   flat out, full torque - 

   be a red hot lover!

 -  "...if you are 

    lukewarm, 

    I will spit you out 

    of my mouth..."

    Revelation 3:16

    Seems that ultimately 

    we are "all in" or...

      "To be or not to be.

       That is the question." 

       Yah, you got 

       a point there, Will!

 

- Be child-like 

  in wonder and 

   simplicity 

   " ...the kingdom 

    of heaven 

    belongs to 

    such as these."

   Matthew 19: 14

 - Live the gifts 

  we are and have. 

  Make room and respect 

  the gifts of others.

  Be united as 

  The Body of Christ:

 "There are 

  different kinds 

  of gifts, 

  but the same Spirit... 

  Now to each one 

  the manifestation 

  of the Spirit

  is given for 

  the common good...

   Now the body 

  is not made up of 

  one part but of many..." 

  l Corinthians 12:1-31

  Honor, get excited 

  about our 

     part and place

         in the 

  Symmetry of Unity

 

 - "God is love." 

     l John 8:4

    Live that love - 

    radical real

    personally, 

    collectively,

    practically.

  

 - "Love is patient, kind, 

    does not envy, 

    does not boast, 

    is not proud, rude, 

    self-seeking,

    is not easily angered,

    keeps no record 

    of wrongs, 

    does not delight 

    in evil, 

    but rejoices 

    with the truth,

    it always protects, trusts, 

    hopes, perseveres, 

    never fails..."

   l Corinthians 13: 4-8

   Worth getting out of bed for!

   A great criteria 

           for 

    School Board 

           to 

      Presidency

           for 

      family life

           to 

neighborhood rapport

and that worldwide.

 

- Dress in 

  wrap around goodness: 

 "Therefore as God's 

   chosen people, 

   holy and dearly loved, 

   cloth yourselves with 

   compassion, kindness, 

   humility, gentleness, 

   and patience. 

   Bear with each other 

   and forgive 

   whatever grievance 

   you may have 

   against one another. 

   Forgive as 

   the Lord forgave you.  

   And over all 

   these virtues

   put on love, 

   which binds them 

   together in perfect unity."

     Colossians 3:12- 14

   Now that's really living  

              and 

        being dressed 

       for the occasion!

During his teen and 

young adult years

my Uncle Charles had

the hardest 

of hard times

getting up.

His brothers and friends 

would have to throw 

cold water on him

or roll him 

onto the floor

to get him up.

Awake came later.

May God have 

better luck with us!!

"The hour has come 

for you to wake up 

from your slumber, 

because our salvation 

is nearer now than when

we first believed."

   Romans 13:11

Let's get beyond 

devotional reading 

of the scriptures above.

Let's Pray Ponder over 

their wake-up call, 

do so radical real

- How can each invite, 

each line, even word, 

wake us up and

come alive in us, 

as persons and 

as a people?

Let's see it and say it 

and live it - actually, 

practically, personally 

and as a people.

Let's feel deeply 

the truth that

others are us

in different ways -

even more deeply, 

that others and 

each of us are 

God Sprung

     and 

God Centered

in all kinds of 

delightfully 

different ways - 

wake up to 

Sacred Oneness

Uniquely Diversified. 

- "Do unto others..." 

       who are 

 God Splendidly Present. 

 What does it mean 

 to be "kind" to "kin," 

 others closer to us than 

 tribe, type, or temperament?

 Honestly and practically, 

 what about the church's 

     Wake Up Call?

        ******
